Introduction
The use of a wide variety of essential medicines and health technologies in Africa creates the need for robust pharmacovigilance systems to promote patient safety across the continent. With regional variations in the status of pharmacovigilance systems, collaboration among African countries is essential, as it promotes strengthening of pharmacovigilance through sharing of lessons learned, mutual exchange of best practices and scale up with a goal of ensuring patient safety

History
The African Society of Pharmacovigilance (ASoP) was launched during the 32nd WHO meeting in Rabat, Morocco in November 2009, where representatives from 16 African nations met to discuss a pharmacovigilance society for African professionals. Subsequently, ASoP became the African Chapter of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) during the 10th ISoP Annual Meeting in November 2010 in Accra, Ghana.
Aims
The main objectives of the African Chapter of ISoP are to develop and foster Pharmacovigilance Interventions in African countries and to promote a regular exchange of information on Pharmacovigilance issues through meetings, workshops, bulletins and trainings.[1]

The main focus will be Pharmacovigilance in Africa: Successes, best practices, Innovations and Lessons Learned with the following sub themes:
- Achievements and lessons learned in Pharmacovigilance
- Pharmacovigilance data and Use for decision Making at all levels
