Birst is a cloud-based business intelligence platform that enables businesses to analyze, explore, and visualize big data. Birst was founded in 2004 and is a global leader in cloud BI and analytics. It is one of the leading partners of Amazon, Salesforce, Marketo, SAP, Microsoft, and others. It was recognized as one of the top vendors for Centralized BI Provisioning and OEM/Embedded BI by the 2015 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms Report. It is designed to be a native cloud application and hence comes with low TCO in both public and private cloud or on-premise via an appliance. Birst has recently partnered with Exasol in order to enhance the performance and scalability of the platform. Among its partner companies include Acumen Solutions, Forefront, and Matchpoint Solutions. The company competes with the likes of GoodData and Jack Be. The company CEO is Jay Larson with an Owler approval rating of 70%. [3] It has raised $139M in 4 rounds. The latest round was in 2015. [4]

Birst then overlays a unique set of business rules and definitions to ensure data is always accurate and consistent. Product Overview

Birst takes raw data, runs it through Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process and then automatically builds a data warehouse to make it ready for analysis. Birst’s software is aimed at all business users from IT to marketing to executive management. Birst’s BI software comes in two editions: the Discovery edition and the Enterprise edition. The Discovery edition is the more basic software and is aimed at the users who need fast and simple information. It comprises of ad hoc analytics, dashboards, and mobile analytics. The Discovery edition is also recommended for data that comes from one or two sources and already contains historical context. The Enterprise edition contains all the features of the Discovery Edition, plus adds automated data warehousing, data mashups, and dimensional database management. Birst also provide data analytic solutions that are specifically for the following users – sales, Marketing, Finance, HR, and supply chain. In 2015, Birst has introduced an upgrade called the Birst 5X. Birst 5X includes features such as updated dashboards and Visual Discovery, upgraded mobile functionality (including the ability to conduct analytics offline), and a new interface that allows users to work with the data source of their choice (i.e. Microsoft Excel). Birst has a wide variety of features, such as big data services, data warehouse automation, and managed data mashups. BI data can be accessed from mobile devices, such as iPad and iPhone. The BI solutions also work with existing systems, such as Salesforce, SAP, or Microsoft Analysis Services. Other main features are : Ad Hoc Analysis, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), Predictive Analysis, Profit Analysis, Trend Indicators, Ad Hoc Reporting, Automatic Scheduled Reporting and Customizable Dashboard.
